St. Petersburg is a remarkably beautiful city filled with art, history and character. Many of the fine St. Petersburg’s art galleries are housed in beautifully restored old buildings and so the gallery itself holds a certain amount of appeal in addition to the art housed within its walls. The art galleries in St. Petersburg showcase the best contemporary Russian paintings, sculptures, graphics, traditional icons, jewelry and individual objects of art. So whether you’re looking for something old or something new – you’ll be sure to find it in the magnificent city of St. Petersburg.
St. Petersburg theaters and concert halls are a whole world by themselves. Mariinskiy Theater is located here, as well as Mikhaylovskiy Theater, Tovstonogov Bolshoy Drama Theater, Aleksandrinskiy Theater, Bolshoy and Malyy Philharmonic Halls and many others. Together with the performances, St. Petersburg has a wide range of staging for children. There are several special children’s theaters, including Theater of Young Spectators, Bolshoy Puppet Theater, etc.
Russian folklore performances, including folk singing, dancing and special festive programs are regularly arranged in the Palace of Labor (Dvorets Truda). You should definitely try to hear some Russian Orthodox Church music, which is solely choral and wonderfully in keeping with the rituals of the faith.
